FIRST EVER CATTLE DRIVE FOR A CURE TO BE HELD AT THE MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR ON OPENING DAY, AUGUST 31ST TO BENEFIT THE COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER OF SALINAS VALLEY MEMORIAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

August, 2011. Monterey, CA. Celebrate 75 years of history at the Monterey County Fair and kick off the event by horse n around with us at the Cattle Drive for a Cure. Witness history in the making as we honor the Western cowboy tradition in our region and partner with the Tough Enough to Wear Pink Campaign. Don your cowboy wear, preferably PINK, and bring your cameras, co workers, friends and family. Come out and see our guest wranglers, local community members, and cowboys on horseback as they drive a herd of longhorn cattle from Garden Road down along Fairground Road. The festivities will start at 9 AM with a delicious Pancake Breakfast and the Cattle Drive for a Cure will begin at 11.30 AM.

The not to be missed Cattle Drive for a Cure on Opening Day of the Fair, Wednesday, August 31st at 11.30 AM will benefit the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System The first 500 Fair attendees who arrive after 9.00 AM will receive a souvenir Tough Enough to Wear Pink Bandana and a free Pancake Breakfast, in addition to free entry to Opening Day of the Monterey County Fair. For all other attendees who come out for the Pancake Breakfast 5 dollars per person that morning, the breakfast event proceeds will all be donated to the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare Systems Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Cattle Drive for a Cure will start on Garden Road near Gate 3 and turn the corner and proceed down Fairground Road to Gate 6. Please note that Fairground Road will be closed that day and fairgoers should park at Shoreline Community Church located 2500 Garden Road and take a free shuttle bus to the Fairgrounds. Directly following the Cattle Drive at Noon, there will be an Opening Day Ceremony with elected officials and dignitaries in the Pattee Arena and all are welcome.

The Monterey County Fairs Pancake Breakfast at 9.00 AM that morning for only 5 dollars includes pancakes, sausage, and beverage. All proceeds will benefit the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Cure for Cancer Research. The Seniors Faire at the Faire will be open from 9.00 AM – 3.00 PM at the Turf Club with great informative displays for seniors and their loved ones. The Fair is Free til 3.00 free entry until 3.00 PM with the donation of a new or gently used childrens book. It is Seniors Day at the Monterey County Fair and all seniors over 65 years old can enter the Fair at any time for only 3 dollars. The Monterey County Fair will run from August 31 through September 5, 2011.
The Monterey County Fairgrounds is a premiere event center set on 22 oak studded acres with ample parking. It is home of the annual Monterey County Fair, host to many major and private events on the Central Coast, and the site of the Monterey Bay Race Place, a Satellite Wagering Facility. The Monterey County Fair is the 7th District Agricultural Association of the State of California.
