2006 Tucson Rodeo Recap - TETWP
The opening performance of the 2006 Tucson Rodeo (Sunday, Feb. 19) was designated “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” day. $1 of every paid admission and $5 for every contestant competing on Sunday was donated to the Southern Arizona chapter of the Susan G. Kohman Breast Cancer Foundation. The Committee was inspired to add the promotion after witnessing the success of the event at the 2005 WNFR in Las Vegas.
The Committee partnered with the local Kohman Foundation to promote the event through the media and invited the Foundation to utilize the rodeo venue to educate thousands of people. Cowboys, cowgirls and fans wore pink Wrangler bandanas and Committee members sported pink Wrangler shirts to signify their support. Western Warehouse, the largest western wear outfitter in Southern Arizona, featured (and sold out!) pink Wrangler Shirts in its four, area stores and in its retail tent at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds. Foundation staff, volunteers and breast cancer survivors and their families were on hand to distribute information about breast cancer prevention and support programs available in the area.
The Tucson Rodeo Committee presented a check for $4,133 to the Kohman Foundation. The Committee also intends to add a “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” day to its 2007 schedule, expand the day’s activities and program promotional efforts into its annual marketing plan to increase awareness and results.
