California Rodeo Association president, Jim Slaten, presented Nan Borreson, board president of the Breast Cancer Action Group of the Monterey Peninsula, a check in the amount of $12,925.00, during last evening’s Rodeo Directors’ meeting held at the Salinas Sports Complex.

The $12,925.00 along with an additional $3,570.00 that was donated to BCAG earlier in the year for a total of $17,615.00, constitutes the funds raised by the Rodeo’s Tough Enough To Wear Pink campaign that was introduced as part of the 2006 California Rodeo. Along with hundreds of professional rodeos across the country, the California Rodeo joined in the fight against breast cancer and declared Friday night of Rodeo “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” night.

Rodeo directors, volunteers, competitors and spectators were all encouraged to wear pink and show their support. A portion of ticket and souvenir sales, donation of bar tips and individual donations made up the total sum.An additional sum of $9,268.00 went to Wrangler and The Tough Enough To Wear Pink Foundation through the Rodeo Association’s purchase of Wrangler TETWP shirts and TETWP bracelets of which 100% of the proceeds benefit the Susan G. Koman Foundation and the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Tough Enough To Wear Pink Bracelets and T-shirts (donated by Fashion Streaks of Monterey) will remain available for purchase while supplies last at the California Rodeo Office, with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Action Group of the Monterey Peninsula.

For information call the Rodeo Office at (831) 775-3100.
